Sustainability and Natural Connections

31 Jul 2018 2:58 PM - Beehive building
Our gardening area has continued to be a point of interest and enjoyment, and over the last few months we have been learning about the important role that our Australian Native bees play in our environment. We have built our own native bee hotel and have worked with a local expert ‘Carl the bee man’ to resource and plant a variety of plants that our local bees will love.

The koalas have also had a huge interest in nature and a few small groups have been on nature walks as well as a walk down to the local florist, who showed us a huge variety of plants and flowers in her shop. We talked about which of the flowers are natives and grow here in Australia and which are flowers from other countries.

A Sensory Garden has been grown with various stimuli for the children with which to engage. We have plants, herbs and flowers that stimulate us through our sights, sounds, touch, taste, and smell. We just hope that the possums don’t eat it before it gets established!
